Well, we start with Staithes and French cleats.

Norton Shed has heard about French Cleats from their use at Staithes Shed. They are mounts that interlock to hold items in place on a vertical surface. What is French about them is lost in time but some think it derives from French shipbuilders in 18th century using them to attach fittings once the main body of a ship was built. for the gadgets.

We’ve mentioned and shown them before on this web-site but now we can see their use not just for hanging saws and small tools but for a table saw. hanging it on a wall rather than having it occupy floor space. Clever cleats.

An ace Tuesday morning full of creative action

We worked front and back of the Portakabin. At the back we manhandled the steel platform with steps from the far end of the Shed to the middle to where a door used to be. It’s presently covered over. The plan is to build a ramp for those who find steps difficult and possibly for wheelchair access.

Ramp for those with walking difficulties or in a wheelchair to be constructed.

At the front  we turned the steps sideways and made a platform to step onto from the patio doors.

The platform with space for a chair (!). We had to trim the doors down to miss the arms on the awning. We now need a lick of paint on the steps
