Steve, Paul and Graham Pitch for Purpose

Steve, Paul and Graham from another angle

Today has been a glorious day

A sunny, warm day. It’s a little taste, we hope, of summer!

Locomotion 1 began assembly today, after some timber cut for it on Monday.

We went on to do a group photo in front of the Shed banner.

Inside Derick & Paul were 3D printing and Bob & Graham were stripping back the rotted edging of the Portacabin. Everything under the beating sun.

Locomotion in miniature

3D printed key-rings and other potential promotional items. Well, we don’t do promotion really – it’s not the way we gain Shedders who need a Shed. We do awareness! From above you’ll see the beginnings of the stage backdrop for the Billingham Bicentennial event, but 3D printing is another example to make people aware of what Shedders can do.  Our new catch phrase is “We do more than woodwork. We try to repair men!”

So, here is Locomotion, the key fob (black on white) and, being printed as this piece is being written, a .(gold on black).

A Personal Reflection by Graham

In a week of tariff turmoil, Graham went to the Shed at Norton Sports complex to find a busy car park and lots of youngsters in football kit. He even had a brief kick about with two of them.

How refreshing to be in such a positive place! It shouts of community building.

Dream: Defining Success, One Word at a ...Earlier Graham visited NatWest Bank in Stockton to try to help a problem his Aussie grandson had. Expectations were low but at least it offered the possibility to speak to a human being. The human was Greg and he even joined in a conversation with said grandson to provide some guidance and grandpa some encouragement. The branch is closing in 3 months time.

How much society is losing by artificial systems that try to replace people’s ways of thinking and discussing, especially in situations that are unfamiliar and stressful.

Norton Men’s Shed has met in the past few months some very understanding, collaborative and committed individuals in the voluntary, healthcare, administration and business sectors. They are community bricklayers alongside us!

Community is made by people. The Shed is a tangible example of that. The more we meet others we find others with the same vibe as us.
A real problem (in Graham’s humble opinion) is that not enough is invested in talking, working and trusting others. Why? The pressure of time and the belief that every minute should be focused on being “productive”.

We need space to think!

An owl nesting box for a project in Whitby district. Some 3D printed elements too! Graham’s home work.

The plane Graham used was tailor made by BayThorpe Shedder Lance for himself. A work of art.
