The Wooden Horse

Not Troy and no one hiding inside.

It;s the wooden horse of Norton made for the Remembrance Service at Norton Sports Charity scheduled for lat weekend but cancelled due to weather and ground conditions

However a display has been created of several items and there are both the horse and the dog. Simply remembering the numerous animals that served in particularly WW1 alongside those soldiers we associate with Remembrance each year.

Anthony’s Big Garden Dream

Now that the work is substantially completed, thanks to a community effort led by Norton Men’s Shed, the “long sticky blog” has been returned to its place in the pack of cards. The horse, dog and pigeon for Remembrance was a forerunner community project and we’re helping  Norton 1st Scouts (with Frank) on a woodland shelter. We have enjoyed a good year and have been joined by a tidy number of new Shedders this year.

This is the blog for Anthony’s Big Garden Dream that told the story   Calling those willing to help Anthony realise his Big Garden Dream NOW ALMOST DONE

What’s next?

The next project is slightly different but still for members of the community. It is Norton Doing Place to start in late January2024 at a new venue in Norton with a bit more space to spread out for a variety of different activities typified by crafts of different types.

We’ll even have a Library of Things that can be done that will be viewable on a mobile phone. “What do they do there?”  Eventually we’ll say take a look!

Insurers are happy, the premises are a little less “workshop” in character and there is the prospect of some funding to start it up.

Its nature will be similar to The Shed since it will be a project run by the shared efforts of those who come who together will provide some creative distraction tailored to the individual.

The intention is that the current Monday Shed group will together help set up the project over the next couple of months and then be a “Velcro” group for  newcomers to attach to!

Harrogate Woodworking Show 10-12 November

Shedder Graham, 2 Scout Leaders and son Kevin with a foot in both camps) spent a fun time at the Woodworking Show.

Finally, Norton 1st Scouts Meets UK Men’s Shed to receive a Shed Badge

Shedders are big Boy Scouts really! Both organisations work for the wellbeing of those who attend, young or old!

Catalyst Conference 2023

Graham attended the event organised to promote/acknowledge the work of the VCSE (Voluntary, community and social enterprise) sectors. It was organised by Catalyst, the VCSE support organisation in the Borough of Stockton, and the event manager was Helen Deehan (yeah!!).

7001 hits on the wooden horse

The last hit resulted from high winds on the Monday of the Remembrance weekend. It resulted in the horse having a broken neck  and several broken ribs.

The other 7000 hits were on the Norton Sports Charity Facebook page which featured the horse and dog made by the Shed. There was a very steady flow of visitors to view the display in person and for some to stand there in silence.

Who knows what results that might come from a bit of caring concern.
