Keeping in Touch

In  our lifetimes, indeed in the past 30 years, our ability to communicate cheaply the world over in sound and vision has been transformed. Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams . . . . or whatever allow us to be virtually in the next room.

Thus Graham has been in touch from Oz usually by WhatsApp with Kevin, Steve, Paul, Martyn, Derick at various times and even timed it right to call Norton Shed during sessions. It has allowed preparations for the new Norton Doing Place to be shared.

Paul sent a few piccies of Tuesday’s Shed. A couple of new attenders included. Chris (bearded) spoke to me on Monday in a WhatsApp call where I also saw an image of me (apparently) that Wheelchair Steve had made. The fat figure looked nothing like me!

Meanwhile, Graham was trying out a paddle board on the Mornington Peninsula.

He had managed to balance standing when something happened. He found himself tipped into the water.  It wasn’t the fault of his granddaughter, she said, so Graham must assume it might have been a wrestling match with a salt water croc. Lucky to survive, eh?: The water was a bit warmer than the North Sea but it still came as a surprise! His wide brimmed hat was floating on the surface.

It was on the other side (the Bass Strait) that an Aussie Prime Minister named Harold Holt vanished whilst swimming. There are a number of conspiracy theories about his disappearance.

Here is a Christmas Greeting from UKMSA that is a bumper summary edition

It celebrates a lot of diverse progress in 2023 and looks forward to 2024.

There’s a lot to browse that’s encouraging. It’s the steady week to week work that really scores of course.

Thanks to Derick for capturing the scene this Friday morning.

Wishing the Norton Shedders a Happy and Healthy start to 2024

Here are some photos of a couple on a camping trip who pulled off onto a track at the side of a rural road. They decided to splash through a muddy puddle but the puddle was about .75m deep. They came to a stop with water half way up the vehicle door.

Along came Graham’s son Neil with  Graham on board and there was a woman standing on the roof of the vehicle waving her arms. That was when Neil realised her plight.

Neil turned off the road onto the track and inside was the woman’s husband frantically trying to keep the engine running so it would not flood. Fortunately Neil has a winch fitted to the front of his truck (why wouldn’t you) and the vehicle was dragged out. The door was opened by the man and out ran a flood of muddy water.

Note the woman’s white shorts which turned brown when she had to step in the water to attach the tow rope.

It’s a New Year’s Day the couple won’t ever forget.
